Wonders of Masaya

Katarina lookout, Ceramic workshop, Masaya art craft market, Masaya volcano tour

This 5 hour tour includes jaw dropping views and wonderful local art and is close to the house.

Katarina lookout

We start driving about 25 minutes to the beautiful lookout of Katarina, from here, you will be able to observe the astonishing crater of lake Apoyo. This used to be a volcano which erupted over 22 thousand years ago, it now one of the biggest and deepest volcanic lagoons in Central America. Lake Nicaragua in the Colonial City of Granada has the great Mombacho Volcano which can be seen from this lookout. This makes a great view to look at while eating lunch!

Ceramic workshop

San Juan de Oriente is an indigenous town of just 7 thousand inhabitants, 95% of these people live by working the ceramic and selling it at the surrounding markets where tourists buy them for souvenirs. We will learn how the local indigenous people work to earn a living.

The ceramic is made using methods from the ancient Nicaraguans civilizations, these methods have been passed down through generations for over 5 hundred years.  You will be able to purchase your own little piece of history from here to take home and help out the local community at the same time.

Masaya art market

This market purchases most of the ceramic pieces made from the surrounding local communities in the city of Masaya.

Masaya Volcano tour

This is an opportunity to get close to a live active volcano, an experience that can only be found in Nicaragua. You can see a lake of glowing Magma once at the top truly a must see when visiting Nicaragua!
