Mario
Mario is a certified tour guide who has been in the tourism industry for over twelve years. His passion for reading and learning has given him a wide knowledge of geology which helps him out to understand and explain the volcanology system of Nicaragua. He has studied the history of Nicaragua very well and is an asset on any tour.  His passion is his family, country and good times with all is clients.  You are in safe hands with Mario!

A Day of Campesinos (Artisanal Fishing)

Spend a full day with a local family from the isletas of Granada.
You  learn how a local fisherman works hard to bring food to his kids’ table.
Campesinos usually wake up so early in the morning to go fishing, but today, around 9am, you and him will row a wooden boat, taking with you a artisanal fishing net and will go fishing. On the way back, you will stop at the peninsula to grab some firewood to cook your fish. Once you reach the local house, you will help the ladies clean and cook the fish for a delicious meal.

This tour lets you live a day of the life of a local family, it’s an unforgettable experience. Part of the money spent on this this tour will be used to improve the parents and 6+ kids lives.

We leave the house at 7am.
We will be back in our house at 4pm.

Gallopinto & Chocolate Tour

This one consists of visiting a rural area located just 30 minutes from our house.

We will learn how local families make the delicious Gallopinto (Rice & Beans), this is one of the most famous typical nicaraguan meals.

You will learn how to boil the beans, the rice and then combine them together to make Gallopinto.

The second part of the tour is about the process of refining Chocolate. We will be visiting a cocoa field where a local guide will explain how cocoa goes from seed to delicious cup of chocolate. We will also revisit the interesting history of Nicaragua’s use of Chocolate as a currency in its ancestral days.

León City Volcano Boarding (CERRO NEGRO VOLCANO).

We leave the house at 5am and drive 3 hours to the Colonial City of León once there, we head straight to the youngest volcano in Central America.
The only active volcano where you can slide down its sandy hills like an ocean! A unique once in a lifetime opportunity that is must visit in Nicaragua.
Around 11 am we head back to the city of León where we will have lunch and a city tour. Visiting the most emblematic buildings of the city.

Around 4pm, we will head back to our house beautiful house Casa Castillo.

Ometepe 1 Night & 2 Days

With around 260 square kilometres, Ometepe is the biggest Volcanic Island located in a fresh water lake. It hosts 2 volcanoes, one of them is still active and its amazing wildlife will captivate you when you visit it.

Day 1

We leave the house at 5:30 am and drive almost 2 hours to get to San Jorge Port, after that at 7:45 am, we take the ferry for about 1 more hour to get to the island.

Once on the island, we eat breakfast at a local restaurant then head to the first reserve.

Charco Verde Natural Reserve:

This reserve is located near the lake and trails around a small lagoon with mystical green water. You will see incredible views of the Concepción Volcano and wildlife such as crocodiles, turtles. monkeys and birds!

Lunch & Relax

Once we finish touring Charco Verde, we check into the hotel and have lunch while admiring the breathtaking view of lake Nicaragua.

After lunch we take a short drive to Ojo De Agua, a pure, clean water lagoon that comes deep from the depths of the volcano. It is thought the water will help you gain 20 years of youth after swimming in it!

Day 2

We wake up early in the morning for our kayaking tour at the Istiam River. A three hour tour surrounded by real nature and the beautiful songs of the birds. You will be stunned by this paradise.

After the tour we head back to the hotel, take the ferry around 11 am and head back to San Jorge Port,then we drive to San Juan del Sur in the Pacific Coast. After lunch we will visit one of the highest lookouts in Central America “The Jesus Christ of Mercy Statue”, which is almost 22 meters high and overlooks the bay of San Juan del Sur.
After this we drive back to our house in Granada.

Pure breeze & historical flavor

This city tour includes visits to a cathedral, la merced church, san francisco museum, old train station, historical cemetery, chocolate factory, cigars factory.

Our great day starts with a quick 20 minute drive to the colonial city of Granada, the most important city of Nicaragua. Built almost 5 hundred years ago, destroyed by pirates and civil wars but still alive with its amazing historical backgrounds.

We will visit the beautiful and interesting buildings like churches and museums. We will also learn about the chocolate & cigar manufacturing process.

The tour includes a one hour horse carriage ride around the city. Lunch can be eaten at the beginning or end of the tour at the colonial house of Granada.

Hiking and horseback riding

We leave the house at 5am, we take a short 20 minute drive to a dock before embarking on a 45 minute boat ride to Charco Muerto. We stop for a cup of Nicaraguas famous coffee, then horseback ride to the “Big Hill”. We will then hike around the beautiful hill top. We will see stunning views of the Zapatera Volcanic Archipelago, Mombacho Volcano, Granada Islets, Lake Nicaragua & the surrounding communities.

Fishing and cooking

For lunch, we go fishing in lake Nicaragua with a local expert. We then clean and cook the fish with the locals for a delicious authentic lunch!

Sour water swimming

After lunch we set off on another quest to the legendary Aguas Agrias (Sour Waters) , the local community say these waters will make you feel ten years younger! These waters are located at the base of the Mombacho volcano. We then head back to the house to finish off the day.

Somoto Canyon Full Day

Hiking, Rural Life Landscapes, Flora and Fauna Observation, Swimming and Canoeing,

The Somoto Canyon is located four hours away in northern Nicaragua. A true adventure, this national monument was discovered in 2004 by a group of scientists from the Czech Republic and Nicaragua. The canyon is believed to have formed 5 to 13 million years ago, a truly stunning piece of nature that must be explored.

For this tour we have the house at 4am, we will drive four hours to get to the monument. After breakfast, we will start our tour around 9am. This tour last about four hours,
we will be surrounded by the 120 to 150 meter high volcanic wall in which river Coco goes through. We be swimming, canoeing, and relaxing while enjoying the beautiful flora and fauna the surrounds the area.

Once we are done with our tour, we will have a delicious lunch around 1:30pm and after that, we will drive back to Granada for about 4 hours.

Wonders of Masaya

This 5 hour tour includes jaw dropping views and wonderful local art and is close to the house.

Katarina lookout

We start driving about 25 minutes to the beautiful lookout of Katarina, from here, you will be able to observe the astonishing crater of lake Apoyo. This used to be a volcano which erupted over 22 thousand years ago, it now one of the biggest and deepest volcanic lagoons in Central America. Lake Nicaragua in the Colonial City of Granada has the great Mombacho Volcano which can be seen from this lookout. This makes a great view to look at while eating lunch!

Ceramic workshop

San Juan de Oriente is an indigenous town of just 7 thousand inhabitants, 95% of these people live by working the ceramic and selling it at the surrounding markets where tourists buy them for souvenirs. We will learn how the local indigenous people work to earn a living.

The ceramic is made using methods from the ancient Nicaraguans civilizations, these methods have been passed down through generations for over 5 hundred years.  You will be able to purchase your own little piece of history from here to take home and help out the local community at the same time.

Masaya art market

This market purchases most of the ceramic pieces made from the surrounding local communities in the city of Masaya.

Masaya Volcano tour

This is an opportunity to get close to a live active volcano, an experience that can only be found in Nicaragua. You can see a lake of glowing Magma once at the top truly a must see when visiting Nicaragua!

Zapatera Island Petrogliphs & Hiking

Hiking, Rural Life, Landscapes, Flora and Fauna Observation Pre-Columbian Heritage Swimming

Departing early from the colonial city of Granada, we will take our boat transportation and start an interesting excursion through the natural volcanic islands, known as the “Isletas de Granada”.
Here we will be able to observe the bird life of the region, incredible landscapes, breathtaking views of Mombacho volcano and its lush surroundings.

Afterwards we will head southeast to Zapatera Island National Park regarded as the second largest island in the Great Lake of Nicaragua. Zapatera, of volcanic origin, is famous for its rich pre-Columbian history and archeological findings. The Island was probably the most important and sacred ceremonial site in all the Pacific Region, the exchange place of many Indian tribes traveling throughout Central and South America. In 1849 USA Diplomat Ephraim George Squire discovered an important collection of volcanic totems on the island, most of them located today at the San Francisco Museum in Granada.

Once we had enjoyed Zapatera Island landscapes and history, we will head to mainland and reach the farmers community of Charco Muerto, in here, we will have a delicious lunch in a local house with a local family. We will  then hike up the hill of La Lomona which will reward us with astonishing views of Lake Nicaragua, Zapatera Archipelago,
Granada Isletas, Mombacho Volcano and more.
