Mario
Mario is a certified tour guide who has been in the tourism industry for over twelve years. His passion for reading and learning has given him a wide knowledge of geology which helps him out to understand and explain the volcanology system of Nicaragua. He has studied the history of Nicaragua very well and is an asset on any tour.  His passion is his family, country and good times with all is clients.  You are in safe hands with Mario!

A Day of Campesinos (Artisanal Fishing)

Spend a full day with a local family from the isletas of Granada.
You  learn how a local fisherman works hard to bring food to his kids’ table.
Campesinos usually wake up so early in the morning to go fishing, but today, around 9am, you and him will row a wooden boat, taking with you a artisanal fishing net and will go fishing. On the way back, you will stop at the peninsula to grab some firewood to cook your fish. Once you reach the local house, you will help the ladies clean and cook the fish for a delicious meal.

This tour lets you live a day of the life of a local family, it’s an unforgettable experience. Part of the money spent on this this tour will be used to improve the parents and 6+ kids lives.

We leave the house at 7am.
We will be back in our house at 4pm.

Gallopinto & Chocolate Tour

This one consists of visiting a rural area located just 30 minutes from our house.

We will learn how local families make the delicious Gallopinto (Rice & Beans), this is one of the most famous typical nicaraguan meals.

You will learn how to boil the beans, the rice and then combine them together to make Gallopinto.

The second part of the tour is about the process of refining Chocolate. We will be visiting a cocoa field where a local guide will explain how cocoa goes from seed to delicious cup of chocolate. We will also revisit the interesting history of Nicaragua’s use of Chocolate as a currency in its ancestral days.

León City Volcano Boarding (CERRO NEGRO VOLCANO).

We leave the house at 5am and drive 3 hours to the Colonial City of León once there, we head straight to the youngest volcano in Central America.
The only active volcano where you can slide down its sandy hills like an ocean! A unique once in a lifetime opportunity that is must visit in Nicaragua.
Around 11 am we head back to the city of León where we will have lunch and a city tour. Visiting the most emblematic buildings of the city.

Around 4pm, we will head back to our house beautiful house Casa Castillo.

Ometepe 1 Night & 2 Days

With around 260 square kilometres, Ometepe is the biggest Volcanic Island located in a fresh water lake. It hosts 2 volcanoes, one of them is still active and its amazing wildlife will captivate you when you visit it.

Day 1

We leave the house at 5:30 am and drive almost 2 hours to get to San Jorge Port, after that at 7:45 am, we take the ferry for about 1 more hour to get to the island.

Once on the island, we eat breakfast at a local restaurant then head to the first reserve.

Charco Verde Natural Reserve:

This reserve is located near the lake and trails around a small lagoon with mystical green water. You will see incredible views of the Concepción Volcano and wildlife such as crocodiles, turtles. monkeys and birds!

Lunch & Relax

Once we finish touring Charco Verde, we check into the hotel and have lunch while admiring the breathtaking view of lake Nicaragua.

After lunch we take a short drive to Ojo De Agua, a pure, clean water lagoon that comes deep from the depths of the volcano. It is thought the water will help you gain 20 years of youth after swimming in it!

Day 2

We wake up early in the morning for our kayaking tour at the Istiam River. A three hour tour surrounded by real nature and the beautiful songs of the birds. You will be stunned by this paradise.

After the tour we head back to the hotel, take the ferry around 11 am and head back to San Jorge Port,then we drive to San Juan del Sur in the Pacific Coast. After lunch we will visit one of the highest lookouts in Central America “The Jesus Christ of Mercy Statue”, which is almost 22 meters high and overlooks the bay of San Juan del Sur.
After this we drive back to our house in Granada.

Our great day starts with a quick 20 minute drive to the colonial city of Granada, the most important city of Nicaragua. Built almost 5 hundred years ago, destroyed by pirates and civil wars but still alive with its amazing historical backgrounds.

We will visit the beautiful and interesting buildings like churches and museums. We will also learn about the chocolate & cigar manufacturing process.

The tour includes a one hour horse carriage ride around the city. Lunch can be eaten at the beginning or end of the tour at the colonial house of Granada.

HIKING & HORSEBACK RIDING: we leave our house early in the morning at at 5am, we drive 20 minutes to a duck where we will take a boat for 45 minutes to get to Charco Muerto, in there, after taking a cup of coffee, we will do the horseback riding for about 20 minutes to get in the wood heading to the “big hill”, once on
the base of this hill, we leave the horses there and start hiking for about 30 more minutes. In the top, we will have some rewarding views of Zapatera Volcanic Archipealago, Mombacho Volcano, Granada Islets, Lake Nicaragua & the surrounding communities.
FISHING & COOKING (lunch time).
Once we had done this great adventure tour, we will head to the community of Charco Muerto, in there, we
will take a wooden boat, some fishing rods & a fishing net and go fishing in Lake Nicaragua, we will do this for about 1 hour with a local expert and we will go and clean what we catch and with the help of some local women we will cook so we have lunch.
SOUR WATER SWIMMING.
Once we had had lunch, we will drive 40 minutes on a dirt road to get to Aguas Agrias “Sour Waters” located on the base of Mombacho Volcano, this a perfect place to swim on its water that comes from the depth of the Active Mombacho Volcano.
Besides refreshing yourselves for about one hour, the component of this water is so healthy for your asking so after you do so, you will feel 10 years younger lol……
Once we are done, we drive 25 more minutes in a dirt road to get to a paves road for 35 minutes to get to your house. What a wonderful day this is…..!

Somoto Canyon Full Day

Located about four hours driving from our house, this canyon is a real adventure destination that you should not miss, according to geologist it was carved by the imponent Coco River between 5 and 15 years ago. It was founded in 2004 by a group of geologists from Check Republic and Nicaragua. In November the 26th 2006 it was declared as a National Monument by the Nicaraguan Government.
For this tour we have to leave our house early in the morning at 4am, we will drive four hours to get to
the monument and after breakfast, we will start our tour around 9am. This tour last about four hours, in
it, we will be captured by the 120 to 150 meters high volcanic wall in which river Coco goes through, the width ranges between 10 to 15 meters and in our tour, we will do swimming, canoeing, jumping and relaxing while enjoying the beautiful flora and fauna the surrounds the area.
Once we are done with our tour, we will have a delicious lunch around 1:30pm and after that, we will drive back to Granada for about 4 hours.

This is a wonderful combination of tours the will take you to some of the most spectacular destinations located pretty close from your location area.
KATARINA LOOKOUT: We start driving about 25 minutes to the beautiful lookout of Katarina, from here, you will be able to observe the astonishing crater lake of Apoyo (this used to be a volcano which erupted over 22 thousand years ago, its main crater was
filled up by the rain and its now days the deepest and biggest volcanic lagoon in Central America.
Lake Nicaragua, the Colonial City of Granada and the always imposing Mombacho Volcano can be seen from this lookout. (LUNCH COULD BE AT THIS GREAT PLACE HAVING THE BEST VIEWS EVER).
CERAMIC WORKSHOP: San Juan de Oriente is an indigenous town of just 7 thousand inhabitans, 95% of these people live by working the ceramic and selling it on the surrounding markets where tourists buy them for souvenirs.
The good thing about this place is that you will be shown how these local indigenous people still work

the ceramic the same way our ancestrals used to do it over 5 hundreds years ago. (In here, you will be able to buy your own piece of ceramic for you to take it home).
MASAYA ARTMARKET: This is the place that buys most of the the ceramic pieces which are made in all of the indigenous towns of the surroundings areas of the City of Masaya.
MASAYA VOLCANO LAVA TOUR: This is for sure the most amazing volcano in the whole Central Americal. It is the only one in the Western Hemisphere that we can drive up to the very top and the only one in the whole America where a lake of glowing magma can be seen. Masaya Volcano is a must when you are in Nicaragua.

Zapatera Island Petrogliphs & Hiking

Departing early from the colonial city of Granada, we will take our boat transportation and start an interesting excursion through the natural volcanic islands, known as the “Isletas de Granada”. Here we will be able to observe the bird life of the region, incredible landscapes, breathtaking views of Mombacho volcano and its lush surroundings.
Afterwards we will head southeast to Zapatera Island National Park regarded as the second largest island in the Great Lake of Nicaragua.
Zapatera, of volcanic origin, is famous for its rich pre-Columbian history and archeological findings. The Island was probably the most important and sacred ceremonial site in all the Pacific Region, the exchange place of many Indian tribes traveling throughout Cen‐ tral and South America. In 1849 USA Diplomat Ephraim George Squire discovered an important collection of volcanic totems on the island, most of them located today at the San Francisco Museum in Granada.
Once we had enjoyed Zapatera Island landscapes and history, we will head to mainland and reach the farmers community of Charco Muerto, in here, we will have a delicious lunch in a local house with a local family and after relaxing for some minutes, we will hike up the hill of La Lomona which will reward us with astonishing views of Lake Nicaragua, Zapatera Archipelago,
Granada Isletas, Mombacho Volcano and more.
